Can you set up a Distance Selling Pharmacy in Scotland?

We have been asked this question numerous times by some of our clients, the short answer for Scottish NHS DSPs is no, as the legislation is lacking. However, an alternative is that you could open a purely private Distance Selling Pharmacy via an application with the GPhC, the only draw back of this is then you would not be able to dispense NHS FP10 prescriptions. Here are a few further options:

  • Find a pre-existing traditional bricks and mortar pharmacy and create a "distance selling pharmacy" division.
  • Create your own new bricks and mortar pharmacy in Scotland (typically very difficult to achieve due to PNA)
  • Create a DSP in England, Wales or N. Ireland.
